Biography: Professor Hosoda graduated from the faculty of Economics, Keio University in 1977, he received Master’s and Doctor’s degree from Keio University. He studied an economic theory at the University of Manchester from 1983 to 1985 as a British Council Scholar. Coming back to Tokyo, he became an Associate Professor at Keio University in 1989 and was promoted to a Professor in 1994. For a while, he had gradually changed his main field from theoretical economics to environmental economics, particularly economics of waste disposal and recycling. From 2001 to 2004, he served as a dean of the faculty of economics, Keio University. He is a member of the Central Environmental Council of Japan, which is a Governmental Committee for promoting environmental policies. He was a president of Society for Environmental and Policy Studies, Japan, from 2010 to 2012, and also a president of Society of Environmental Science, Japan, from 2012 to 2014.
